Trip Description

Step into Arthur Ransom’s story book world with us on this Swallows & Amazons inspired adventure swim in the waters of Coniston and Windermere. This jolly super weekend explores this fascinating adventure story and its stunning landscape via swimming and boats.

Our base is Low Bank ground on the shores of Coniston right next door to High bank ground farm, Holly Howe in the books. From here we are all set for a classic Lake District adventure right out of book and screen.
Meals and board are included so you can kick back and enjoy the ride.

Swim Ability & Fitness Level: Suitable for swimmers who are confident swimming in open water and can comfortably swim at least 2 km in open water  (such as open lakes and sea).
Moderate fitness level, some walking & boarding of boats involved.

We start on Friday afternoon with a briefing and acclimatisation swim right from the bottom of the lawn, followed by dinner and film night, by the end of which you’ll be familiar with the story and names of the places we’ll be visiting and swimming around.

On day 2 we are ferried across Coniston by our wooden launch to catch the morning sailing on the steam Yacht ‘Gondola’, one of the models for Captain Flints houseboat. We cruise down Coniston aboard Victorian splendour to the start of our swims where we can pick out the Amazon’s boat house, explore up the Amazon River and the beautiful Octopus Lagoon and swim to Wild Cat Island. (approx 1.5km & 2km). At Wild Cat Island there’s time for grog and pemmican, and to explore the island for treasure.

To finish our day no Swallows and Amazons adventure would be complete without the campfire and grog, it’s a must weather permitting!

More adventures are abound on our final day, after a pre-breakfast swim (as you please) we head over to ‘the lake as big as an ocean’, exploring islands in a sheltered bay and paying a visit to ‘Rio’ for tea and supplies (1-2km swim).

What’ s Included:
Cruise on the steam yacht ‘Gondola’
Wooden launch transfers
Qualified & experienced swimming guides to accompany you.
Comfortable accommodation at Low Bank Ground (see ‘tab’ for more info)
All meals including breakfasts, lunch and dinner.
Tea, coffee, hot choc available at accommodation.
