Swim Description

The Millerground Mile Swim has been the route of choice for our open water swimming training as long as we can remember. It provides just the right amount of challenge in a safe environment for swimmers wanting to build up to swimming a mile in open water. The vista from the water is great, with views towards Claife Heights and the shoreline near Bass Rock providing the perfect backdrop to our swim.

If your goal is to swim a mile at the Great North Swim, or just to enjoy a pleasant swim in this lovely bay on Windermere, the Millerground Mile is the swim for you.

A little bit about the Millerground Mile Swim

Millerground Landing on the edge of Windermere has always been associated with outdoor swimming, both Troutbeck Swimming Club and local schools have used it for generations for swimming lessons. Tough little Cumbrian school children would do laps between the little jetties and then run, shivering, to their towels on the shore.
For the open water swimmer, it provides an attractive and relatively safe place to swim with great views across the bay which was the site of the original Windermere Cross Lake Swim.

It is a very accessible area and has good parking and public toilets nearby. The swimming is relatively sheltered, with shallow water that stretches all the way around the bay which enjoys a distinct lack of boat traffic compared to the rest of the lake.

Exact meeting place, venue and itinerary will be confirmed upon booking. We can provide all of the equipment you will need for this swim with our low-cost hire if you do not have your own.

Please read the FAQ and Essential Information tabs to the left for information on what to expect and what to bring and more.
